# 30-day (720-hour) transfer lock

The 30-day transfer lock is a shorter transfer hold that ICANN's Board approved on June 7, 2026. It would replace the current 60-day lock. ICANN has not published an effective date.

## Why it matters

Today's rule still holds. Registrars may block a transfer for 60 days after a new registration or after a transfer between registrars. A change of registrant also triggers a 60-day lock unless the owner opts out first. The Board's June 2026 decision points to a shorter 30-day lock, but revised policy text and a start date are still pending. Plan a sale around the lock that applies today. Check your registrar's current terms before you promise a closing date.
