# Domain Name Industry Brief (DNIB)

The Domain Name Industry Brief is a quarterly report on global domain registrations by Verisign. It tracks growth, renewals, and extension trends across the industry.

## Why it matters

The DNIB is a common source for total registration counts and .com figures. Analysts and brokers cite it to show market size and growth. Use it for the broad trend, such as whether .com grows or shrinks. It does not report aftermarket prices, so it is not a valuation tool. Compare reports over several quarters. Common mistake: quoting one quarter as a long-term trend. Also note that Verisign sponsors the report, and it runs .com, so read the numbers alongside other sources.
