# Exclusivity agreement

A contract that makes one broker the only party allowed to sell or negotiate a domain for a set time. It usually states the term, the commission and what happens if the seller finds a buyer alone.

## Why it matters

Brokers ask for exclusivity because they spend time and money on outreach. Without it, a seller could close a deal on their own and skip the fee. For the seller, it gives one clear point of contact and a focused plan. Read the term length, the commission rate, the tail period after expiry and whether you can still sell through your own listings. Sedo's brokerage terms, for instance, describe the broker acting as exclusive representative. A common mistake is signing without checking if existing marketplace listings are allowed. Ask for that in writing.
