# Expired Registration Recovery Policy (ERRP)

The Expired Registration Recovery Policy is an ICANN rule that protects owners of expiring gTLD domains. It sets renewal reminders, fee disclosure and a 30-day redemption period after deletion.

## Why it matters

Under the ERRP, registrars must send at least two renewal notices before expiry and one more after deletion. Registries must offer a 30-day Redemption Grace Period, when the owner can restore the name for a fee. Sellers should know this because an expired listing can come back. Buyers should know that a name in redemption is not for sale. Do not assume a name is free just because it has expired.
