# Portfolio sale

A portfolio sale is the sale of many domain names in one deal, often by an investor who is exiting or by a company that is cutting its holdings. The price covers the whole set.

## Why it matters

Buyers like portfolios for the volume and the chance of a few strong names. Sellers get a quick exit but often at a lower price per name than selling one by one. A broker can value each name and find a buyer for the group. Buyers must run due diligence on each domain, since weak names, expired names, and trademark problems can sit inside. Common mistake: paying for the best name in the list and treating the rest as free. Poor names carry renewal fees every year.
