# Premium renewal

A renewal fee for a registry-priced premium domain that stays at the elevated premium level every year, instead of falling to the extension's normal renewal price after the first term.

## Why it matters

Some registries mark certain names as premium and charge a high price for both registration and renewal. A buyer may pay a modest purchase price and then face a large yearly fee. Always check the renewal price before buying. The fee is set by the registry and can change under its rules. Sellers of premium names should state the renewal cost in their listing. A common mistake is focusing on the sale price alone. A $2,000 name with a $1,000 yearly renewal costs far more over five years than it first appears.
