# Rebrand

A rebrand is a change to a company's name, look, or identity. When the name changes, the company often needs a new domain, which can drive a domain purchase.

## Why it matters

A rebrand is a common trigger for buying a premium domain. Moving to a new domain needs care: Google advises server-side 301 redirects from old URLs to new ones, a Change of Address submission in Search Console, and keeping redirects for at least a year. Sellers of the new name should know a buyer may have a firm launch date. Buyers should secure the domain before announcing the new brand, or the price may rise. Common mistake: announcing the name first. Owners who see the news can raise their ask.
