# Transfer Dispute Resolution Policy (TDRP)

An ICANN policy for resolving disputes between registrars over a contested inter-registrar transfer, such as an unauthorized move. Registrars file these cases, not individual domain owners.

## Why it matters

The TDRP covers transfer disputes between a gaining and a losing registrar. If a domain was moved without proper approval, the losing registrar may start a case. Owners usually work through their registrar. This is different from the UDRP, which settles trademark claims between a brand and a domain owner. For a hijacked name, speed matters. Report the theft to your registrar at once and keep records. A common mistake is waiting. Delays can allow the thief to move the name again. In sales, a clean escrow process lowers the chance of a later transfer dispute.
