Type-in traffic is visits that arrive when a person types a domain name straight into a browser. It does not come from search results, ads or links.

## Why it matters

Generic names such as cars.com once earned large type-in traffic. Today browsers and search engines send fewer typed visits, but short, memorable names still get some. This traffic shows direct brand recall. It was a main reason domainers valued generic names. A common mistake is paying extra for old type-in traffic claims. Ask for real analytics and check the date. Traffic from years ago may be gone. Analytics from the last 12 months are the best proof.
