# Uniform Rapid Suspension (URS)

URS is a fast, low-cost dispute process for clear cases of trademark abuse in domain names. It applies to new gTLDs and other extensions that adopt it, and it results in suspension of the domain.

## Why it matters

URS complements the UDRP but offers a narrower remedy. A winning complainant gets the domain suspended, not transferred. The standard is high, and the case must be clear. Owners of generic words are usually safe if they use the name for its common meaning. Sellers should respond on time, since missing the deadline can lead to a default ruling. Buyers should check whether the name has a trademark problem. Common mistake: ignoring a URS notice, because the response time is short compared with court cases.
