IDN ccTLD

An IDN ccTLD is a country-code top-level domain written in a non-Latin script, such as Cyrillic, Arabic, or Chinese characters. It represents a country or territory in its own language.

Why it matters

IDN country extensions let users type full web addresses in their own script. ICANN runs a Fast Track process that lets a country or territory on the ISO 3166-1 list request a string. For buyers, these extensions are a local market play, not a global brand play. Sellers who hold local-script names should expect a narrow buyer pool. Common mistake: assuming an IDN ccTLD works in every app. Email and some software still handle non-Latin addresses poorly, a gap tracked under universal acceptance.
