Buying and selling

Domain broker

A domain broker is a professional who buys or sells domain names for a client. The broker finds the other side, handles negotiation and manages the deal through to transfer, usually for a commission.

Why it matters

A broker can reach owners who do not answer cold emails and can keep the buyer's name private. Sellers use brokers to find end users and to negotiate better. Buyers use them to approach hard-to-reach owners. Fees vary. One public example is Sedo, which lists 15% for sellers and 20% for buyers plus a contracting fee. A common mistake is signing a long exclusive deal without checking the fee terms and the exit conditions.
