Buying and selling

Sell-side broker

A sell-side broker represents the domain owner. The broker markets the name, finds buyers, negotiates for the best price and manages the sale. The seller pays the fee only when the deal closes.

Why it matters

Sell-side brokers focus on finding end users, meaning businesses that will use the name, not other investors. They research who could benefit, reach out quietly and set a realistic range. The fee is usually a percentage of the sale. Sellers should ask for the commission rate, the term of the agreement and whether the broker has exclusivity. A common mistake is expecting a broker to sell any name. Some names have no buyer at the seller's price.
