Why it matters
New gTLDs added hundreds of extensions to the market. Some, such as .app and .xyz, found real use, while others sell few names. Aftermarket demand for them is thinner than for .com, and prices can vary a lot. ICANN opened a new application round with a window from April 30 to August 12, 2026, so more extensions will follow in coming years. A common mistake is assuming a new extension holds its value because it is new. Check real sales data and who buys the extension before paying a premium. Registry pricing for premium names can also be high.
