Radio test

The radio test asks whether someone who hears a domain name once, with no spelling, could type it correctly. A name that passes is easy to say and spell.

Why it matters

Brands spread by word of mouth, podcasts, and calls, so a name that fails the radio test loses visitors. Words with odd spellings, silent letters, or extra numbers fail. Say the name to a few people and ask them to write it. Buyers should run this test before paying for a brandable name. Sellers can use a pass as a selling point. Common mistake: loving a clever spelling and forgetting that customers will type the common spelling and land on a competitor.
