Exact-match domain (EMD)

An exact-match domain is a domain that matches a search phrase or a product word exactly, such as a keyword plus the extension. Examples are cheapflights.com or insurance.com.

Why it matters

EMDs can carry strong type-in traffic and clear meaning. Buyers value them for the instant relevance. Search engines no longer give a name a ranking boost just for matching a keyword, so value comes from branding and direct visits, not from an SEO trick. A common mistake is paying a premium for an EMD to rank faster. Pay for the brand and the audience it can reach, not for a shortcut that Google has reduced.
